Your house exerts quite a load on its foundation and the soil underneath your foundation may be inadequate.

When the soil underneath your home or commercial property is altered, primarily from moisture changes, it shrinks or expands and becomes less stable. This moisture change causes pressure from outside your foundation walls from expansive soil saturated with water.

Buildings built on piers and beams are less susceptible because of less contact with soil movement.
